Love Letters to Planet Earth - Gallery B612 / Seattle

 Love Letters to Planet Earth

March 5 - April 29, 2026

Gallery B612 | Pioneer Square
520 1st Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104

"You're invited to experience the unique perspectives of twenty-five artists as they share their love of our planet. Celebrate, investigate, and reimagine the natural world in Love Letters to Planet Earth.  This collection presents a series of metaphorical “love letters” to the Earth: visual celebrations shaped by unique perspectives of our shared planet. Vibrant color and rich texture bring to life a thriving natural world and allow us to imagine her potential, while works with layered narratives present windows to what may be lost.  Through a lens of hope, the collection highlights why our planet deserves protecting."

Abstract Sanctuary - Verum Ultimum Art Gallery / Portland

Abstract Sanctuary

Thank you Verum Ultimum Art Gallery for the insightful perspective 💚💙

"Spaces everywhere need punctuation in the grammar of visuals.  May Barbara De Pirto’s “Corolla” provide the moment, the pause to breathe in the wonder of unfolding. Barbara creates the most organic paper art forms. My art confession today is that this breathtaking beauty is as singular as the first spring bloom after a bleak winter…indeed an early spring-like sanctuary for the gaze!"

'Patchwork'

"Inspired by an aerial perspective of farmland. A landscape where fields are divided into smaller, irregular plots, each often cultivated with different crops or at different stages of growth. This creates a visually varied and intricate pattern, much like a quilt."  This piece reflects my continued exploration of organic textures & forms, recreated in paper & acrylic. Each individual segment is collaged with found & painted papers then coated with multiple layers of acrylic. The final piece is mounted on a wood panel so it appears to float on the wall when displayed.

'Tafoni'

"Inspired by rock structures that look like honeycomb or Swiss cheese and form over eons through cycles of erosion and weathering.  This sculpture is created using painted papers, the two-sided segments are adhered together then coated with multiple layers of acrylic to increase stability. The oval lace-like pattern is cut out, each section is attached to form final sculpture. Additionally the shadows cast by this structure become an intriguing part of the piece. This sculpture reflects my  continued exploration of organic textures & forms, recreated in paper & acrylic."

'Forest Slipper'

"Fascinated with organic textures, I create molds, casting them in acrylic & fiber. In this sculpture I've incorporated some of my tree bark forms which have been tinted with acrylic paint & collaged with painted papers. A fiber & acrylic stainless steel armature wraps the structure to stabilize, as a finishing detail & for wall display."

'Exquisite Ornament' at Bainbridge Arts in Crafts

'Corolla' & 'Entangled' are included in 'Exquisite Ornament' at Bainbridge Arts & Crafts on Bainbridge Island, WA.
The exhibition runs April 5 through April 28, 2024.
Learn more HERE

"Throughout human history, our innate inclination towards ornamental expression has woven a rich narrative. As Elizabeth Gilbert eloquently penned, we are artisans driven to render things more beautiful than mere necessity dictates. In this collaboration with Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, we extend an invitation for you to contribute works that bear witness to our inherent desire to adorn not only ourselves but also the spaces and objects that surround us.

The spectrum of acceptable submissions is broad – from wearable pieces to sculptural objects. Embracing various craft media, including ceramics, wood, fiber, glass, metals or a harmonious blend of these elements, we encourage the exploration of artistic boundaries.

You might craft jewelry from precious metals and stones, or perhaps you'll venture into uncharted territories, transforming recycled materials and repurposed objects into unexpected treasures. For some, this might be an opportunity to reimagine traditional metalsmithing or fiberworking techniques in unconventional forms. Whether your objective is to create something arrestingly captivating, eye-catching, or even dazzling, this exhibition will showcase the ornamental in all its forms."

Artists Include: Candyce Anderson, Lanny Bergner, Cheryl DeGroot, Barbara De Pirro, Mark Ditzler, Kate Dwyer, Gina Freuen, Zia Gipson, Marguerite Goff, Joan Hammond, Lois Harbaugh, Peggy Hitchcock, Steve Jensen, Bella Yongok Kim, Sharon Kita, Dorothy McGuinness, Meg Murch, Gabriela Nirino, April Ottey, Amy Roberts, R. Leon Russell, Laura Stangel Schmidt, Jean- Marie Tarascio, Cynthia Toops, David Traylor, Larkin Jean Van Horn, Barbara J. Walker, Judy Zugish.

'Paper Made' Installation Images

Enjoy this virtual tour of 'Paper Made', an exhibit hosted at Brattleboro Museum & Art Center in partnership with Fiber Art Now.

"Rolling paper into hundreds of multi-layered forms, Amy Genser interprets the colors of the setting sun in Summer Sundown. Barbara Hocker’s depiction of water in Shore to Shore takes the form of a stream emerging from the spine of a book; translucent undulations of paper suggest rushing water.  In par hasard, Linda Colsh also depicts water. Printed with tracings of creek stones on stitched and stained coffee filters, her book evokes conversations with friends over coffee and the transitions that come when one moves away from the familiar. Barbara De Pirro’s Blossom is also tied to nature; circles of painted paper each revealing textured worlds that accumulate and open out into a floral form. Marcia Vogler’s quilted Time Traveler’s Coat, which takes the form of a kimono, speaks to time travel and cultural intersections. In the garment Love My Sugar Daddy, Virginia Green uses U.S. currency to comment on the female body, desire, and commodity. Weaving together strands of paper and raffia, Libby Raab comments on disintegration and decay in Good Times, while conversely, Karen Gubitz weaves paper into geometric forms to speak about accumulation and urban life in her piece, Urban. Finally, Jo Stealey’s Dusters evokes the labor and ritual embedded both in the process of making the paper and in its final sculptural form."

This series of sculptures are created using a combination of fiber, paper, acrylic & wire -- using familiar methods & techniques in unconventional ways. The process of making becomes an art meditation, a time of reflection & growth.”

BIMA Spotlight

Bloom, Entwined & Corolla will be included in the exhibit!
BIMA Spotlight
Jun 30 – Sep 10, 2023

"Bainbridge Island Museum of Art presents BIMA Spotlight, our first-ever juried group exhibition. Six jurors reviewed approximately 3,400 artworks, submitted by 606 artists from the Puget Sound region. The result is a diverse salon-style show, filling the majority of BIMA’s two gallery floors. BIMA Spotlight is part of BIMA’s 10th Anniversary celebration.

The exhibition was not juried along certain themes or art genres; however, several have emerged. These include environmental concerns, social justice issues, art from recycled and repurposed materials, installation work, landscapes, portraiture, and abstract art. Diverse media include: painting; printmaking; photography; sculpture in metal, wood, ceramic, glass, and mixed media; artist’s books; fiber art and textiles; and jewelry art."

Nature Inspired Sculpture

A glimpse into my Mixed Media Sculptures; Blossom, Corolla, Petals & Thistle. Materials used: Painted Papers, Acrylic & Crocheted Stainless Steel Wire.

"I create environmental, mixed media sculptures. My observations of nature have triggered a profound admiration for its brilliance, resilience and its vulnerability. With each project I strive to create a sense of wonder; enticing the viewer to turn that vision outwards into the natural world, nurturing an understanding of that interconnection and encouraging reflection about our relationship with the environment."
