'chrysalis' Barbara De Pirro
'Art Interruptions'
August - September
Clustered together in four trees, I installed a series of 'chrysalis' sculptures at
The Fiber Gallery at 8212
Greenwood Ave. N.
Woven through a wire armature, I used recycled plastic
product packaging, bags and banding to create each chrysalis, ranging in size
from 12 to 24 inches.
The Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, in
partnership with the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), commissioned 12 artists to create temporary art installations along Greenwood Avenue North and the Central
Waterfront for the project 'Art Interruptions'. Art Interruptions encourages
artists to install artworks on city sidewalks and parks and offer passers-by a
brief interruption in their day with a moment of surprise, beauty or humor.
This project is part of a program called Art
Interruptions which is funded by SDOT 1% for Art funds and administered by the
Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.
