Online Art Workshops!

Image Transfers & Collage

I am a Mixed Media Artist and Educator, sponsored by Golden Artist Colors, Inc. I work both two and three dimensionally, translating my concepts from one media to the other. My expansive knowledge of acrylic, combined equally with my broad understanding of a full range of media has opened the door to vast possibilities. I work with artists coming from a wide range of backgrounds, experience levels, media interest & aesthetic approach. All of this, I generously share with other artists in my workshops and lectures.

Sheltered: Artists Respond to COVID-19

Sheltered: Artists Respond to COVID-19
January 14 – March 20
Schack Art Center

"My artwork has always reflected my fascination & appreciation of nature; however, the importance of this has been profoundly reinforced during the pandemic. My daily rural walks have not only nurtured but have continued to inspire me, increasing my desire to highlight this invaluable resource. The pandemic has also prompted me to continue to explore new materials & methods. In the past several years I've created environmental sculptures & installations using reclaimed plastics. Not only is this no longer a safe option but I was creatively ready for a change. In my new series of sculptures I'm now translating some of these same forms using a combination of fiber, paper, acrylic & wire. Using familiar methods & techniques in unconventional ways, the process of making becomes an art meditation, a time of reflection & healing."

This exhibit explores each artists' individual response to challenges faced during the pandemic. Some have continued to create in similar ways, others have created entirely new ways and workflows. Examine the pieces and the inspiration behind them in Sheltered: Artists Respond to COVID-19.

Meaning of Wood: Seattle

Washington Convention Center
North Galleria, Floor 2
Seattle, WA

JAN 15 - MAR 29
7 AM - 10 PM Daily

Curator Statement

"There are probably as many paintings, photographs and sculptures of trees as there are trees. But many trees meet fates not so frequently portrayed: harvested and shipped to other markets, conserved for biological benefit and recreation, subjected to forest fires or windstorms and so lost to the use of humans and other species, milled and turned into functional products, and so forth.

The Meaning of Wood provokes thinking beyond individual tree portraits into the process and significance of trees becoming wood. It is a paradox of our language that “woods” means a living forest and “wood” means the material of products and commerce. Our language is permeated by tree metaphors – a problem has its “roots,” software programs have “branches,” railroads have “trunk” lines, we ourselves are “stiff as boards” or we “slept like logs.....”

in the studio: 'fragments'

'fragments'      Barbara De Pirro

Printmaking and collage are two techniques used in my current paintings. No found papers are used. I hand paint, block print, collograph & monotype textures & patterns onto the surface of both opaque and translucent papers, cutting and embedding imagery into multiple, transparent layers of acrylic. Achieving an effect very much like wax encaustic or fused glass.
Looking into my paintings is much like peering into a pool of water.
